Frequently Asked Questions
Below, you’ll find some frequently asked questions about our range of services in Davenport.
Regular maintenance is key to keeping your AC running efficiently. We recommend scheduling a professional inspection at least once per year to catch potential issues early. This helps your system operate at peak performance, reduces energy consumption, and extends the unit’s lifespan.
Ductless air conditioning provides a flexible cooling solution, especially for homes without existing ductwork. These systems allow for customized temperature control in different rooms, improving energy efficiency and comfort. Their sleek design and quiet operation make them a popular alternative to traditional HVAC systems.
Maintaining good indoor air quality involves several steps. Keeping your HVAC system clean and replacing filters regularly can help reduce dust and allergens. Installing air purifiers or using UV air sanitizers can further eliminate airborne contaminants, creating a fresher and healthier environment.
Choosing the right furnace involves selecting a unit that matches your home’s heating needs. A properly sized and energy-efficient system will provide reliable warmth while keeping utility costs in check. Professional installation ensures safe operation and compliance with local building codes.
If you experience weak airflow, temperature inconsistencies, or a sudden rise in energy bills, your ductwork might be the culprit. Damaged or outdated ducts can allow air leaks, making your HVAC system work harder than necessary. A professional assessment can determine if repairs or a full replacement would improve efficiency and indoor comfort.
A pool heater lets you enjoy swimming in comfortable water temperatures year-round. It extends your pool’s usability beyond summer, allowing for more relaxation and entertainment options. With gas and electric models available, you can select an option that best suits your home’s energy needs and budget.
Excess moisture in the air can make your home feel damp, encourage mold growth, and create an uncomfortable living environment. A dehumidifier removes excess humidity, helping to maintain balanced indoor air conditions. This not only enhances comfort but also protects your home from moisture-related damage.
If your home has poor airflow, strange noises coming from your system, or uneven cooling and heating, your air handler might need attention. An inefficient air handler can reduce your HVAC system’s overall performance and increase energy costs. Professional repair or replacement can restore airflow and improve home comfort.
Indoor air quality testing helps identify harmful pollutants like dust, mold, and allergens that could be affecting your health. Poor air quality can lead to allergy symptoms, respiratory issues, and general discomfort. A professional assessment can determine the best solutions to improve your home’s air, such as advanced filtration systems or better ventilation.

Performed a diagnostic on a 3-ton Goodman air conditioning system. Upon arrival, the indoor blower was running and the thermostat was calling for cooling. The outdoor contactor was pulled in, but the condenser was not operating. Electrical testing revealed no 240 volts line-to-line or 120 volts line-to-ground. Upon further inspection, I found the condenser breaker in the OFF position. After turning the breaker ON, the outdoor unit started operating. I connected my refrigerant gauges and found the system extremely low on refrigerant, with a suction pressure of 36 PSI. As a complimentary service, I performed a visual inspection and electronic leak search on the evaporator coil. I observed oil staining on the coil, and the electronic leak detector confirmed a refrigerant leak. I contacted the office, and a call was created for Kenneth to assist with preparing a new equipment proposal. The customer also approved adding 3 pounds of refrigerant to provide temporary cooling while deciding b
Performed a diagnostic on a 14-year-old Goodman HVAC system. The indoor air handler was operating, but the outdoor compressor was not running. Inspected the system and checked the capacitor and contactor. The capacitor tested within specifications, while the contactor showed pitted contacts. However, the compressor still would not operate. Performed resistance (ohm) testing on the compressor, and the readings indicated a missing electrical leg, suggesting an internal compressor electrical failure. Presented the customer with two options: repair the existing system or replace the entire system. Considering the age of the equipment, the customer decided to proceed with a new system installation. Contacted the office and arranged a service call for Kenneth to prepare a replacement proposal. After the proposal was completed, I remained with the customer to assist with Spanish translation and explain the proposed installation. Collected the necessary equipment measurements, unit informat
Performed the first Polar maintenance on a Bryant 3-ton HVAC system equipped with a 2022 gas furnace, a 2021 evaporator coil, and a 2021 outdoor condensing unit. Tested system operation in both heating and cooling modes. In heating mode, inspected the burners and tested the furnace pressure switches. The furnace operated properly, and all heating functions were working as expected. In cooling mode, checked refrigerant pressures, temperature split, superheat, subcooling, compressor amperage, condenser fan motor amperage, blower motor amperage, and inducer motor amperage. Inspected the electrical components, including the contactor and capacitor, and found all components in good operating condition. Inspected the blower wheel and evaporator coil. Both were clean, with no visible signs of bacterial growth or contamination. Performed condenser maintenance by removing leaves and debris from inside the outdoor unit. Rinsed the condenser coil from inside to outside and outside to inside t
Installed a Honeywell Home S200 Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat, programmed the thermostat, configured the settings in the mobile app, and demonstrated its operation to the customer. During the installation, I discovered that the evaporator coil was freezing up. I reviewed the previous technician’s recommendations with the customer, including that the evaporator coil was approximately 75% restricted. Under the current weather conditions, the restricted coil could contribute to reduced airflow and cause the evaporator coil to freeze. The customer approved the evaporator coil cleaning, microbial sanitization, UV light installation, contactor replacement, and surge protector installation for both the indoor and outdoor units. Before starting the cleaning process, I performed a complimentary leak inspection of the evaporator coil. No refrigerant leaks were detected. I then pumped down the refrigerant, cut the refrigerant lines, removed the evaporator coil, and thoroughly cleaned it. I also sanit
Performed a diagnostic on the Pioneer mini-split system. Tested system operation and found the unit running. Checked system pressures and measured only 36 PSI on the suction side, indicating the system is significantly low on refrigerant. Contacted property management and explained the findings, including the potential difficulty of sourcing replacement parts for this system. Recommended considering a complete system replacement due to possible parts availability issues. Property management requested a replacement proposal, and I forwarded the call to Kenneth, who will handle the proposal for the new system. I also offered a refrigerant leak search; however, Jimmy declined authorization at this time, as he is considering system replacement and needs to discuss the options with the homeowner. System Status: The unit has been temporarily taken out of service pending the homeowner’s decision regarding repair or replacement.
Performed a diagnostic on the downstairs HVAC system. The air handler was operating, and the thermostat had a display, but the outdoor unit was not running. Upon inspection, I found the contactor was receiving a call for the compressor, but no 240V high-voltage power was present. I inspected the pull-out disconnect and found that it sparked when touched, indicating a poor electrical connection. For safety, I turned off the breaker and removed the pull-out disconnect. I tightened the contact points inside the disconnect and applied dielectric grease to help improve electrical contact. After reinstalling the disconnect and restoring power, I tested the system and confirmed that the outdoor unit started and operated normally. I checked the compressor amps, condenser fan motor amps, system pressures, subcooling, superheat, and temperature split. The system is back up and running normally at this time. Maintenance Agreement and Payment: The customer signed up for a Cub Club maintenance
Performed a diagnostic on the Raypak pool heater and found that the unit was not igniting. The control display was locked, preventing access to the heater settings. I contacted the customer to obtain the access code, but she did not have it. The customer authorized removal of the lock so I could access the controls and continue troubleshooting. Upon further inspection, I found that the pilot igniter assembly was severely corroded and deteriorating. The heat exchanger was also severely corroded and falling apart. I explained the condition of the heater to the customer and advised that replacing the damaged components would likely cost more than installing a new unit. The customer declined replacement at this time. I collected the $79 diagnostic fee. For safety reasons, I left the electrical breaker in the OFF position and shut off the gas supply. The heater remains completely out of service until the customer decides how to proceed. I contacted the office to request a follow-up call
Performed a diagnostic on the downstairs unit after finding the thermostat blank. Inspected the system safety float switch and found it activated due to a drain pan filled with water. Further inspection revealed a clogged condensate drain line. Cleared the drain line using a drain snake, flushed the line with four gallons of hot water, and applied Viper drain treatment. After completing the drain cleaning, I tested the condensate drainage and checked the system temperature split to verify proper operation. The unit is back up and running, cooling and draining properly at this time.
Performed preventive maintenance in accordance with the maintenance agreement. Operated the system in cooling mode and inspected system performance, including compressor amperage, condenser fan motor amperage, blower motor amperage, temperature split, subcooling, and superheat. Removed and thoroughly cleaned the condensate pump, then applied Viper treatment to help prevent biological buildup. Disconnected and flushed the main condensate drain line to remove potential obstructions. Rinsed the condenser coil to remove accumulated debris and flushed one gallon of water through the condensate pump to verify proper drainage and operation. Upon completion of maintenance, the system was tested and confirmed to be cooling and draining properly at this time.
Performed a diagnostic on the Carrier heat pump system the air handler is 2.5 to and condenser is 3.5 ton. Upon inspection, I found the evaporator coil, suction line, and compressor area completely covered in solid ice. I shut down the compressor and allowed the system to thaw. After returning from lunch, I checked the system pressures and found the suction pressure extremely low at 48 PSI, indicating a severe refrigerant shortage. I contacted the office to report the findings and performed a complementary leak search on the evaporator coil. A leak had been detected in this coil several years ago, and the current inspection confirmed that the leak has worsened. I contacted the office, and property management approved adding refrigerant as a temporary measure. I added 5 pounds of R-410A refrigerant. After charging the system, it was operating temporarily at this time. Unit conditions are critical. Property management also requested a proposal for complete system replacement. I collec
Had our appointment within a couple hours
Our 18 year old AC unit needed attention. We decided to purchase a new unit. The price was reasonable and the serviceman was knowledgeable and informative.
Victor quickly trouble shot my system and gave me good information to move forward with my next steps.
Showed up day after I called (at 8 pm so I think that was really good).Went over the issue, did the troubleshooting and fix quickly and well. Gave a 4 star for cost as the parts seemed expensive, but it's not like I price ac parts much, so it was likely fair.
Victor helped to identify the problem with our AC and had it remedied and working again within the hour.
Diagnosed and explained everything
Victor showed up within the time frame and was very friendly and knowledgeable. He diagnosed the issue and began repairing by replacing the parts needed. He explained everything he was doing, step by step. During this time he was also checking other parts of the HVAC system to make sure everything was working properly. ALL in All a great service call... THANKS UNDERWOOD!
