Performed a system diagnostic and found the condensate drain line extremely clogged. I cleared the blockage by running a drain snake from inside to outside and outside to inside. I then applied Drain Solve and allowed it to sit for 15 minutes to break down the buildup. Afterward, I flushed the drain line until the water ran clear. The drain pan was clean; I brushed it and applied Viper drain treatment. I also flushed the drain line with approximately 6–8 gallons of hot water. Finally, I tested the condensate drainage and confirmed proper water flow. The system is draining properly and cooling at this time.

Performed a diagnostic on a 23-year-old Thermo-Start heat pump system. The unit was calling for cooling but operating in heating mode. I checked the reversing valve wiring from the thermostat to the outdoor unit and confirmed that the reversing valve signal was energized. However, when checking the output from the defrost control board to the reversing valve solenoid, I measured only 3.2 volts instead of the required 24 volts. Tested system operation in both heating and cooling modes. In heating mode, inspected the burners and tested the furnace pressure switches. The furnace operated properly, and all heating functions were working as expected. In cooling mode, checked refrigerant pressures, temperature split, superheat, subcooling, compressor amperage, condenser fan motor amperage, blower motor amperage, and inducer motor amperage. I reviewed the previous technician’s recommendations with the customer, including that the evaporator coil was approximately 75% restricted. Under the current weather conditions, the restricted coil could contribute to reduced airflow and cause the evaporator coil to freeze.
